HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY WATERBED

To enjoy your waterbed for a long time, it's important to maintain it properly. All removable textile parts should be washed periodically. We recommend doing this at least once every 3 months, but more frequently is also acceptable. Both the water mattress and the water inside it require maintenance.

A common misconception is that you need to replace the water in the water mattress. However, the water you fill into the mattress during setup remains there until there's a reason to empty the mattress (consult your dealer on how to do this). However, a small amount of water may evaporate through the vinyl of the water mattress over time. Therefore, during the lifespan of the water mattress, you may need to top it up a few times.

If your waterbed is installed by an authorized dealer, they will explain how to do this during setup. The installer will also add a start conditioner to the water in the water mattress. This is a biodegradable substance that prevents any bacteria that may come with the water from causing air or odor issues after the waterbed is set up.

Because the water in the water mattress is enclosed, algae and bacteria can develop in it. Due to the pleasant temperature in your bed, algae and bacteria often find a comfortable place to thrive in a water mattress. When a waterbed is installed by an authorized technician, they will follow necessary hygiene protocols to prevent unnecessary bacteria from entering the water mattress during filling. The starter conditioner added to the water contains a higher concentration of active ingredients, allowing you to enjoy your waterbed without issues for the first 6 months.

To continue sleeping worry-free after the first 6 months, it's important to periodically add a waterbed conditioner to the water in the water mattress yourself. This is an extremely simple task. The technician will explain to you exactly how to do this during the waterbed installation.

The technician will also leave behind a vinyl cleaner, a vinyl conditioner, a de-airing pump, and a repair kit for any potential leaks when installing the waterbed. With the vinyl cleaner, you can easily remove the skin flakes and salt crystals that accumulate on the vinyl of the water mattress due to sweating. Simply spray the vinyl surface with the vinyl cleaner and wipe it off with a damp cloth. You can also easily clean the sides of the mattress by spraying some vinyl cleaner onto a washcloth. Once the vinyl is clean, you can use the vinyl conditioner to make the mattress shine like new again.

Everything can break, even a water mattress. It doesn't happen often, but a water mattress can develop a leak. A cat scratching its claws on the mattress, an accident with a sharp object on the vinyl, a spontaneous leak in the water mattress... Don't panic. The water mattress is contained within a safety liner, so water cannot escape from the bed. A leak is noticeable when there is a wet spot in the bed linen. If you remove the bed linen, you may see some water around the edges of the mattress. Remove the excess moisture with a towel. Then apply light pressure to the water mattress, and you will quickly see water dripping from somewhere. Once you've identified the leak, you can easily patch it with the repair kit.
